Key Principles

The key principles of The FA’s Safeguarding Children Policy are that:

  • The welfare of the child is, and must always be, the top priority.
  • All children, young people, and adults have the right to be protected from harm, abuse, or neglect, regardless of age, gender, disability, race, religion, belief, or sexual orientation.
  • Any suspicions or allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and dealt with swiftly and appropriately.
  • Working in partnership with parents/carers, young people, and external organisations is vital for safeguarding.
  • Every player should be able to take part in football in a safe, enjoyable environment, protected from poor practice and abuse.
  • Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility — every adult involved with Talent Edge Coaching plays a part in protecting the welfare of our players.
  • Talent Edge Coaching acknowledges that The FA’s Safeguarding Children Regulations apply to everyone in football, whether in a paid or voluntary role — including coaches, match officials, helpers, volunteers, and medical staff.
Responsible Recruitment

Talent Edge Coaching follows The FA’s Responsible Recruitment guidelines when recruiting coaches and volunteers. We will:

  • Clearly outline roles and responsibilities.
  • Request valid identification documents.
  • Meet and interview applicants where possible.
  • Ask for and check at least two references before confirming any appointment.
  • Where applicable, require an FA-accepted Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in line with current FA policy and safeguarding regulations.
  • Ensure all coaches have up-to-date safeguarding qualifications.
